Aeon to Open First Outlet Mall in Saitama

Aeon Co. plans to open its first outlet mall next autumn in Japan’s Saitama prefecture, Nikkei English News reported, without citing anyone.

The mall, less than 30,000 square meters (323,000 square feet), will be erected in the city of Koshigaya, next to the Aeon LakeTown shopping center, Nikkei said.

Aeon will spend tens of billions of yen (hundreds of millions of dollars), less than the usual cost for a regular shopping center, Nikkei reported.

Simon plans to acquire Prime Outlets

prime_outlets_logo.gifSimon Property Group Inc. plans to add to its Virginia holdings with an agreement to buy all the outlet shopping centers of Prime Outlets Acquisition Co., including a center in Williamsburg recentlty expanded. The transaction, which assumes Prime Outlets’ indebtedness and preferred stock, is valued at $2.3 billion.
The Prime Outlets’ portfolio includes 22 shopping centers in major metropolitan areas such as Washington, D.C., and popular tourist destinations such as the center in Williamsburg. According to Simon, the outlet centers were 92% occupied at the end of the second quarter and generated annual sales per square foot of about $370. Under the terms of the agreement, Simon will pay $700 million in cash for the owners’ interest in Prime Outlets. 

The Prime Outlets chain was sold by its New York parent company, the Lightstone Group. Simon, based in Indianapolis, owns nearly 400 properties in the U.S., including Potomac Mills in Woodbridge and the Fashion Centre at Pentagon City.

Saks joining Gilroy outlets

Saks fifth avenueSaks Fifth Avenue Off 5th, the discount division of upscale specialty retailer Saks Fifth Avenue, will open June 19 in a 28,000-square-foot space at the Gilroy Premium Outlets shopping center.

The retailer will join a large lineup of prominent retailers at the Gilroy center on Highway 101, which has 145 discount outlet stores like Gap, Banana Republic, Nike, Brooks Bros., Coach, J. Crew, Liz Claiborne, Polo Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger and many others...

Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th advertises that it sells merchandise at 40 percent to 70 percent off prices in a full-line Saks Fifth Avenue department store.

Lacoste at Prime Outlets

LacostePrime Outlets Williamsburg has announced its fourth store opening in 2009 with the famous french brand Lacoste.

The outlet offers men's and women's fashions. Identifiable by its classic polo shirt, the brand calls itself "comfortable elegance." The 3,500 square foot store will be located across from the Polo Ralph Lauren Factory Store.

The new store joins ESCADA Company Store, Direct Tools Factory Outlet and Fashion USA, which also opened outlet locations in 2009.

Tanger Outlet Center Bluffton gets approval to grow by 30,000 square feet of shopping

Tanger 1 BlufftonDespite the lingering concerns of local environmental groups, the Beaufort County Council gave final approval in the end of March to redevelopment plans for Tanger Outlet Center 1 in greater Bluffton.

Citing a greatly improved rainwater drainage system, 2.3 acres donated to extend Bluffton Parkway and an estimated $40 million to rebuild the shopping center from the ground up, the council voted 8-1 to grant Tanger the added commercial density it needed for the project.

Tanger will get an additional 30,000 square feet of commercial space on its 25 acres. In exchange, representatives for Tanger Outlet Centers promised to adhere to "green" building standards of the U.S. Green Building Council and an underground water filtration system to prevent runoff from draining directly into the Colleton River. 3 new stores should open in Ontario Mills

Ontario MillsOntario Mills, close to Los Angeles - California, will soon welcome some new stores.
